Misurazioni. Fotografia e Territorio
Mario Cresci

One of Mario Cresci’s most important works, 'Misurazioni. Fotografia e Territorio.', originally published in 1978, is a photobook that explores the relationship between photography, image, anthropology and memory.

Conducting ‘fieldwork’ in Basilicata, Cresci captured objects, tools and homes from the southern Italian region in their original environment, and also replicated these findings in his studio. By juxtaposing the resulting images, Cresci creates relationships between signs, forms and meanings as evidence of the way in which material culture and the environment creates a strong identity linking a physical place to its human beliefs and systems.

'Misurazioni. Fotografia e Territorio.' is published in a new facsimile edition by Yard Press. It adds a preface by Achille Filipponi and an extensive interview with the author by Francesco Angelucci.
