Ali Smith is a Scottish author, playwright, academic and journalist. Her books have won and been shortlisted for many awards. Like Smith's earlier novels Hotel World (2001), The Accidental (2005) and How to Be Both (2014), Autumn was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.
Charlotte Higgins is the chief culture writer of the Guardian. A classicist by education, she is the author of three books on aspects of the ancient world. Her most recent book ‘Red Thread: On Mazes & Labyrinths’ was the inspiration for this exhibition.
