Guido Guidi: Facciate / Facades
27 Sep–22 Dec 2016 Facciate / Facades is an exhibition of works by the Italian photographer Guido Guidi, accompanied by a newly commissioned text by the writer Ali Smith. This is Guidi’s second solo exhibition with Large Glass.
Guidi has said that ‘facciata’ or ‘façade’ refers to both the front of a building and the ‘face; of a sheet of paper. This is also the title of the series of works presented at Large Glass, which were taken in the early 1970s.The images depict buildings, houses, small precarious constructions on the Romagna coast, close to where he lives.
Ali Smith writes:
Everything has a face. Everything has eyes. Everything takes a shape. Everything acts as a frame. Everything is a window. Everything shows you the world. Everything shows you itself. Everything reveals something. Everything is invisible. Everything is mundane. Everything has unexpected life. Everything is embodied. Everything is screened. Everything is walled. Everything is corroded. Everything is home. Everything is strange. Everything is beautiful. Everything is in the eye of the beholder. Everything is bordered. Everything is wide open. Everything is a blank page. Everything is already written. Everything is possible. Everything is about how you see it. Everything outwits you. Everything is your doing. Everything is territory. Everything is accident. Everything is meant. Everything has structure. Everything surprises. Everything is new. Everything is ruined. Everything is known. Everything is unknowable. Everything catches the light. Everything is true. Everything is rotten. Everything has its nature. Everything is structure. Everything is fixed. Everything is uncertain. Everything is geometry. Everything is meticulous. Everything is on the slant. Everything is lived in. Everything is threshold. Everything is caught. Everything is wild. Everything is cracked. Everything is broken. Everything is flawed. Everything is empty. Everything is astonishing. Everything is there. Everything is incidental. Everything is pure. Everything is raw. Everything is banal. Everything has mystery. Everything is clear. Everything is the moment the eye sees. Everything is being brought to light. Everything is being brought to life. Everything has language. Everything asks to be read. Everything is experience. Everything is between. Everything leads somewhere. Everything shows the way. Everything tells you everything. Everything is real. Everything is greener than you’ve ever noticed before. Everything is different. Everything is renewed. Everything is itself. Everything is all there is. Everything is exactly as it is. Everything sees you. Everything is looking at you. Everything is waiting for you. That’s everything.
