22 January 2020Tonico Lemos Auad, the curator of the current show of ceramic work, ‘Barefoot’, is drawn to and endlessly fascinated by clay as a material and medium. The skin-on-skin encounter – or skin-on-something – a pleasing feeling of touching, squeezing, banging, rolling, cutting, putting pieces together; clay as a malleable, changeable material which holds a particular emotional charge, and a certain feeling of being ‘beyond control’.
